Teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi
Perhaps the best description of Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi was uttered from one of his foremost Western disciples: “The specious theory that Bhagavan was not a Guru had simply evaporated in the radiance of his Grace. Moreover, I now perceived that, far from his teaching not being practical guidance, it was exclusively that. I observed that he shunned theoretical explanations and kept turning the questioner to practical considerations of sadhana, of the path to be followed.
It was that and only that he was here to teach!” - from My Life and Quest by Arthur Osborne
Teachings from Various Saints of India on Spiritual Life and Practice
Within all human endeavor to seek and find a higher life in God, the greatest achievements always came from following the God-given scriptures emulated through the Masters and Saints. Herein you will discover some of the most renowned teachings from holy men and woman of India.
Teachings from the Sacred Scriptures of Ancient India and the Mystic Far East
1. From the Bhagavad Gita
There is, perhaps, no other religious text or philosophical
treatise which has been interpreted or misinterpreted, commented upon, lectured upon and handled by so many thousands of Acharyas, Masters, both old and modern, Scholars and Savants,
as Bhagavad Gita. The truths of the Gita can be understood only if one gives one's heart to it. It can never be mastered through intellect and scholarship alone.
2. From the Asthavakra Gita
Even if all the existing scriptures are burnt up
and Ashtavakra Gita alone remains, that alone is enough to enable us to reach the highest Truth.
3. Tao Te Ching - The Sayings of Lao Tsu
Tao Te Ching is the fundamental work of Taoism, and not only points with poetic elegance to the mystery of Oneness, but provides practical guidelines for cultivating character,
conducting war, and governing nations.
4. From the Dhammapada - The Sayings of the Gotama Buddha
The Buddha declared after His Enlightenment:
"Some there are who are clear sighted and do not need my teachings, and some whose eyes are clouded with dust who will not heed it though given, but between these two there are also some with but little dust in their eyes, who can be helped to see; And for the sake of these I will go back among mankind and teach."
5. From the Yoga Sutras - The Sayings of Patanjali
The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali were written around the time of Jesus, give or take 200 years.
The practice of yoga began in India as early as 1000 years prior, but the Yoga Sutras are the most important compendium of this ancient oral tradition, and virtually all later schools
of yoga begin with Patanjali.
6. From Ellam Ondre - All is One
Men court happiness and shun misery. It is the same with other beings also. This holds true for the common run of mankind. But the higher order is bent upon right conduct, enduring patiently the good or evil that it may bring. Fellowship with these will be lasting, whereas fellowship with ordinary people will not be. Good will result to the world through fellowship with the higher order only .
The question then arises: "What is right?'' The point is important, but the answer has not been found. Why? Because what is right is determined by circumstances. Again a few points which may not be clear on a superficial reading will become clear upon closer study. More may be gathered from major works or Sages. Universal Mother, Master true, save us!

Letters from Arunachala - An ongoing journey
"I struggled toward that border land of being, which surrounds the human mind." (Paul Bronton)
He struggled to "cut away slowly into the inner recesses of the mind" in the living physical presence of the Maharshi. What kind of struggle and what support is required of us without that physical impact. The answer was and is to be found within that same Maharshi and Arunachala!

Satsang from Anandashram Om Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram
"Your life is a current that started from an Eternal Source.
Make it flow in all its pristine purity so that it may lighten the burden of the weak,
relieve the distress of the suffering, elevate the hearts of the depressed."
Swami Ramdas
