The Assumption of the Theotokos, the Ever Virgin Mother of God Mary
When the physical sojourn of the Theotokos, the Ever Virgin Mary, was to come to an end on earth, she appeared to fall asleep in the Lord. The Apostles and disciples carried Her body to a special deep underground crypt on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. When this solemn act was accomplished, the entire room filled with a Divine Light. Upon the fading of this Light, the Body of the Mother of God had disappeared, being assumed into the higher worlds.
The commemoration of this most sacred event falls on August 15/28. Although it was believed to be a sad event to those She “appeared” to be leaving behind on earth, many Saints have had visions of these higher worlds. As they beheld all of the hosts of heaven in their visions, they were astounded in not beholding the presence of the Queen of Heaven. To their queries of astonishment regarding the absence of the Divine Mother the attending angels had only one response: “The Mother of God, the Ever Virgin Theotokos Mary is never here, She is always back on earth aiding and comforting those who call upon Her."
